What is the difference between a species and a cultivar?
A species is a naturally occurring plant group that reproduces true to form in the wild. A cultivar (short for “cultivated variety”) is a specific plant that humans have selected, bred, and propagated to preserve unique traits like variegation, unusual leaf shapes, or vibrant colors. This is why you will see a base plant species look entirely different when browsing its popular, collector-favourite varieties.
